How propaganda works
In “The Foundation of Propagandistic Speech | Jason Stanley,” Stanley argues that propaganda cannot be understood merely as false information. Using examples from Athenian speeches, U.S. racial dog whistles, Rwanda’s genocidal language, Nazi and Gulag bureaucratic terms, and Putin’s language of “denazification,” he explains propaganda as speech that attunes people to identities, emotions, practices, distrust, and dehumanizing ways of seeing others.
